2022: A record-breaking year for Greenwood Plants

Greenwood Plants has enjoyed its most successful year to date, exceeding its growth targets with a record-breaking year for orders, sales, and deliveries. It has also demonstrated great progress towards its goal of reaching Net Zero, proving that it’s possible to grow sustainably on a commercial scale.

Greenwood’s accomplishments include more than £14 million in plant sales, which have resulted in more than 13,000 client deliveries. It has increased its portfolio of nurseries to seven, with the addition of the Woodpecker site in West Sussex, and expanded its G Team by more than 20%.

The company’s commitment to pioneering sustainable practices is at the heart of its Every Plants Matters philosophy. This will contribute to its long-term goal of reaching Net Zero and play a part in positively impacting climate change, and this was recognised by the Central South Business Awards when they named Greenwood Plants “Sustainable Business of the Year 2022.” By December 2022, Greenwood was potting 1 in 4 plants in peat-free compost with a production plan to increase this to 100% of plants by the end of 2023. It held an open day in June to share knowledge on peat-free growing and encourage industry stakeholders to move away from using peat.

Greenwood’s mission to reduce waste and use resources efficiently is reflected in the success of G Cycle, its scheme that reuses or recycles crates, pallets, and pots. The scheme collects and reuses over 75% of the wooden crates and pallets that it dispatches. Last year alone, Greenwood donated plants to 20 different local charities and community projects to increase biodiversity and improve outdoor learning spaces.

The success of these sustainability efforts is passed on to Greenwood’s clients and helps to improve the green credentials of the whole supply chain. As well as growing more sustainably, Greenwood launched Greenwood Choice, its trade sales centre, to serve local landscapers and gardeners.

The Company has meanwhile strengthened its commitment to delivering effortless client service by launching G Club, a client loyalty programme that rewards its clients, as the company strives to be the best landscape supply nursery in the UK.

Greenwood has ambitious plans for 2023; not only to become the leading peat-free grower in the UK, but to continue to innovate and demonstrate sustainability leadership within the horticultural industry.
